Nexen-Opti Long Lake Project

Midwest Constructors originally started this as a one contract job in late 2005 to perform the mechanical / piping installation for the water treatment plant (water block). During the progress of the original scope of work, Midwest Constructors was awarded an additional 3 contracts; Well Pad ID, debottlenecking tie-ins, and a building relocation and storage.

These contracts involved the setting of modules, field erection of structural steel, the field assembly of storage tanks and vessels, and the installation of pumps, filters, coolers, piping systems, steam heat tracing, and condensate tubing; all to the point of pre-startup testing.
Midwest Constructors supplied the management team and unionized labour workforce for the installation of the mechanical / piping system and structural steel erection. Midwest’s portion of this project was completed in 2008 and utilized over one million man hours.

Supreme Steel Edmonton was also an important part of this project. SSE supplied a total of 2300 tonnes of bare structural steel and 71 tonnes of grating. Structural steel fabrication included pipe racks, cable trays, buildings, pipe supports, and miscellaneous steel.

The bulk of the steel was assembled on-site or in the client’s module yard in Edmonton. There were 15 cable tray modules, five equipment module skids, and one stair tower assembled by ironworkers in Supreme Steel Edmonton's yard.
